Virgin Money chose a listed building for their new headquarters, which needed to be refurbished into a word-class office that would maximise face-to-face communication between departments.

The building had seen little investment over the years, so required a full strip out, new infrastructure (M&E) and configuration of an open plan office space, maximising ceiling heights with a new central staircase to facilitate engagement and collaboration.

The design featured a unique skylight projection barrasol ceiling, staff break-out facilities and a new executive boardroom suite.

The first-floor reception area was transformed into Virgin Money’s first customer Lounge, a project which developed into a nationwide rollout.

Virgin Money’s new customer Lounge and city centre retail store presented a large retail basement and first floor to create a unique banking experience.

The basement was converted into a games room for customers and local charities which included a full sized 10 pin bowling alley.

The first floor became a relaxing library-themed space which is used regularly for presentations by local businesses and charities as well providing a relaxing city centre haven for VM’s customers.

The client acquired a new Chester office following the migration of its credit cards business from MBNA. A brand-new Cat B fit-out was configured to provide a vibrant, open-plan office with a new internal feature staircase to provide a workplace transformation and cultural shift for the incumbent teams. The new space also featured a biophilic themed project space and flexible multi-use staff facilities.

With a client brief to reduce office space requirements for their London team, Walter Whippet oversaw the redesign and reconfiguration of an historic Victorian Glass Works building into the new !What If? headquarters.

The existing infrastructure was stripped back with new M&E installed as well as a new internal staircase and structural improvements to the building.

After the project was complete, we negotiated dilapidations for the surplus space hand back, and managed the site move of 80 employees into the new space.

The result was an up-to-date, vibrant co-working space, purpose built to facilitate client workshops and flexible in-house project teams.

The brief was to combine high end customer hospitality with branch retail banking services and an added twist! The basement was decked out to represent an aircraft fuselage with recycled aircraft seats and clever video technology. This created a real talking point and providing meeting and presentation facilities for Virgin Money and its customers.

23,000 square feet of previously moth-balled office space was fitted out to an open-plan configuration in order to house the disparate IT and Change teams onto one floor. This incorporated workplace transformation to an agile scrum-based methodology and the rebranding of the department.

The open-plan space featured a central canteen hub, break-out spaces and booths as well as meeting rooms with video conference capabilities.
